Business & Environment

The Business and Environment part of Net Impact will both help to raise awareness on campus and bring together the business and the environment so they are no longer mutually exclusive.  The club will do this through Green Week, guest speakers, and collaboration with the other professional clubs on campus.

Overview

Environmental sustainability is progressively becoming a major consideration in business decisions. Not only does energy, water, and other resource conservation make sense from a bottom line standpoint, but consumer attitudes, as well as government policy, increasingly mandate changes or make 'business as usual' prohibitively expensive. The Net Impact Club strives to provide a high-level forum for discussing the forces behind these shifts, as well as tools and bodies of knowledge for students interested in either sustainability as a career focus of students interested in other fields from finance to consulting and marketing to general management.

Goals

The goals and objectives for this year are to:

  • Develop broader interaction with other Duke Graduate programs and the broader community
  • Increase interest in Fuqua's new Energy and Environment concentration and concurrent degree programs
  • Provide toolset for students to make sustainability decisions
  • Conduct sustainability studies at Fuqua. Possibilities topics include: feasibility of a solar array, a waste stream audit, and implementing a composting program.
